If you are here in Costa Rica and love hiking, you must take the time to visit Chirripo National Park. A good trip will take up a number of your vacation days, but it is well worth it. This is definately on the top of my list of places I recommend. Most people (including Ticos) will tell you it's impossible without a reservation with the park service, but if you have the will (and a little patience - necessary for this country) it is totally possible. Small groups without a reservation can arrive to the ranger station first thing in the morning and ask for permission to leave the next day. If there is space available in the cabins they will generally grant you permission to go the next day.
